About Madeline Singas

Acting Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas

A Tough Career Prosecutor

Madeline Singas is the Acting Nassau County District Attorney and Kathleen Rice’s former top deputy. A lifelong prosecutor with more than two decades of experience in the courtroom, Madeline has successfully prosecuted violent criminals, drug dealers, corrupt law enforcement officers and sex offenders, and started and led Nassau County’s first-ever Special Victims Bureau. As Acting District Attorney, Madeline is leading the effort to fight public corruption, lock up violent criminals who threaten our communities and battle the heroin epidemic.

Fighting Public Corruption

Madeline launched a probe into Nassau County’s contracting system following allegations of corruption, favoritism, and misuse of taxpayer funds. Her report found the contracting system had serious flaws, calling it “a recipe for corruption.” As a result, the County immediately formed a committee of experts to review the contracting process. Now, Madeline is fighting to establish an independent inspector general’s office to review and investigate all county contracts.

Madeline has helped convict dozens of corrupt government employees, including elected officials, who betrayed the public trust by misusing taxpayer dollars. Madeline is pushing for strict rules to prevent county officials from using taxpayer money for political purposes, like political mailings disguised as "newsletters."

Locking Up Violent Criminals

Madeline has also personally prosecuted some of Nassau County’s most notorious, violent criminals. She has kept women, children, and the elderly safe from physical and sexual violence - both inside and outside their homes. From the crime scene to the courtroom, Madeline has built the cases that have locked up the gang members who bring violence, guns and drugs into our communities. With 24 years as a law enforcement officer, Madeline will continue standing shoulder-to-shoulder with our police officers to keep our families safe.

Battling The Heroin Epidemic

Madeline takes a tough and aggressive approach to fighting Nassau County’s heroin epidemic. As Acting DA, Madeline has cracked down hard on the dealers who are bringing violence, drugs and addiction into our neighborhoods. Madeline has pushed for tougher laws against dealers, implemented innovative educational programs in our schools and expanded treatment for non-violent offenders to get them clean and off the streets.

A Mom Committed to Our Community

Madeline lives in Manhasset with her husband and 13-year-old twins. She is a proud first generation Greek-American who grew up in Astoria, Queens, fortified by her family’s commitment to community, faith and education. She is a graduate of The Bronx Science High School, Barnard College at Columbia University, and Fordham University School of Law.
