Teamsters Joint Council 16 Endorses Singas for District Attorney

Friday, May 1, 2015

Mineola, N.Y. – Today, Teamsters Joint Council 16, which represents over 120,000 workers in downstate New York, endorsed Madeline Singas for Nassau County District Attorney. The union praised Madeline Singas’ reputation as a tough prosecutor who believes no one is above the law.

“In her over-two decades-long career as a prosecutor, Madeline Singas has never been scared to take on the tough cases,” said Teamsters Joint Council 16 President George Miranda. “I’m proud to endorse a candidate for District Attorney who has extensive courtroom experience and a proven track record of prosecuting wage theft. We can count on Madeline to stop employment abuses and protect all Nassau County residents.”

“I am honored to receive the endorsement of the Teamsters Joint Council 16, an organization with a long history of supporting justice and serving our communities,” said Singas. “I have spent my entire career prosecuting dangerous criminals, and as your District Attorney, I will continue to fight to keep Nassau’s families safe. I look forward to working with the Teamsters Joint Council 16 as District Attorney to build a fairer, safer community.”

Madeline Singas was sworn in as Acting District Attorney in January 2015, following the departure of Rep. Kathleen Rice, under whom she served as Chief Assistant since 2011. Singas began her career as a prosecutor in 1991 and has over two decades of courtroom experience. Since joining the Nassau County District Attorney’s office in 2006, she has successfully prosecuted some of the county’s most notorious violent criminals and served as Chief of Nassau County’s Special Victim’s Bureau. She is a graduate of Bronx Science, Columbia University, and Fordham University Law School.

Teamsters Joint Council 16 is one of the Teamsters Union’s oldest affiliates and represents over 120,000 members in 26 locals in New York City and surrounding areas, as well as Puerto Rico. The organization is devoted to supporting, advancing and advocating for rights of its workforce.
